Wind-Up birds for flute quartet- PDF score and parts (includes a 3rd flute for alternate to alto part)
wind-up birds is a quartet for piccolo, two flutes, and alto flute.
The alto flute can also be played by flute, in the case no alto is available.
This work is based on a dream of wind-up birds that came to life, flying, as very distinct characters. Each movement is a different wind-up bird, with different wind-up mechanisms and cycles. Think of Pinocchio as an analogy. Instead of a puppet, wind-up birds
The man-made wanting to be "real". Each bird is named in some way.
The work does not use literal bird calls but might sometime appear to imitate them.
The work is modular and the movements should be played in any order in which the performers agree.
